Dear Friends of Origin,

Welcome to another edition of Origin News! If you haven't visited in a while you may have missed the huge upgrades happening in the Taikang Rd Area. We apologise to any guests who had to hike their way through the mess. The good news is that lane 278 Taikang Rd and Lane 155 Jianguo Rd where we are, is all good and easy to access now. However, the big news this month is that we have finally given in to the overwhelming demand for weekday breakfast at Origin! Also in this edition, we have some great new items on the summer menu as well as special Chinese Valentine's Day sets for later in the month.

Breakfast at Origin

Weekdays from 9:30am (yes, we are appealing to that niche) Origin will be serving a range of delicious breakfast dishes from 32 – 45RMB. Take your pick from a selection of four simple breakfast classics: cornflakes with toast and jam, crepes, soft boiled eggs, and seasonal fruits with toast and yoghurt! Breakfast is served right up to 11:30am so it's perfect for those that start the day late or those that want to pop in for a coffee meeting. The full fresh juice menu will also be available. This now brings the Origin opening hours to 9:30 to midnight daily.

Summer Menu

We're currently on our seasonal rotation with the fresh new summer menu. Some of the highlights are: the refreshing lychee and spinach salad, the fava bean salad, and my favourite - the fig and chicken salad. With our seasonal menus we try to take advantage of the best local produce at the time to create the tastiest dishes the way nature intended them to be eaten. For the summer we've also adjusted our weekday lunch sets that now range from 68RMB to 98RMB.

Chinese Valentines - August 26th

Let's face it, one Valentine's Day per year is just not enough to say “I love you” to that special someone. Here in China you have been graced with a second opportunity to spoil your partner. This year we have a 5-course “couple menu” for 688RMB per couple that includes a welcome glass of Moët & Chandon Champagne and free flow red wine. For the entrée there is crispy duck with mango relish, antipasti plate, seared scallops with vanilla Champagne vinaigrette, or cinnamon dusted foie gras. The main course includes a choice of beef tenderloin with truffle mashed potatoes or Ahi Tuna with Mediterranean salsa. To finish off, dessert will consist of a slice of crispy chocolate cake and mint chocolate gelato. If that wasn't enough, we're including a Valentine's gift for everyone and a lucky draw!
